Dr. James Magara is a futurist and leadership strategist with a multi-faceted career. He is committed to preparing Africa’s institutions and people for the demands of tomorrow. He holds a Doctor of Strategic Leadership from Regent University (USA), a Master of Arts in Organizational Leadership and Management from Uganda Christian University, a Master of Science in Dental Prosthetics from the University of Bristol (UK), and a Bachelor of Dental Surgery from Makerere University.
His leadership formation is further deepened by an Advanced Leadership Certificate from the Haggai Institute (Hawaii), the Oakseed Executive Leadership Training Course under the Institute for National Transformation, and the Sundoulos African Leadership Training Certificate in Servant Leadership.
As a futurist, Dr. Magara is driven by the conviction that Africa’s greatest untapped resource is its people, and that unlocking their potential demands visionary, forward-looking leadership. This has taken him to global leadership platforms, and shaped his provocative book, Positioning Africa for the 21st Century: The Pivotal Role of Leadership and Think Tanks, which has established him as a compelling voice on strategic foresight and institutional transformation.
He has dedicated himself to raising, mentoring, and equipping other leaders through platforms such as the Institute for National Transformation and the Centre for Advanced Strategic Leadership think tank (CASTLE). As Dean of Uganda Christian University’s School of Dentistry, he brings the same future-oriented approach to academic leadership, while also running Jubilee Dental, a multi-location practice that marked 30 years of service in 2024. His leadership legacy extends into family life. With his wife, Lorna, he co-founded Vine International Christian Academy two decades ago, nurturing learners with the character and future-ready competencies needed for the 21st Century.
